Why can't other airports be more like Changi?

As a Singaporean, trapped in Singapore for the last 3 years, I finally got to fly to Japan in Dec 2022.

With a stopover in Taipei.

The custom and immigration clearance for Taipei (even for transit passengers) and Japan (with its Covid screening measures) was hellish.

Or rather, it was hellish for someone used to Singapore's efficiency and speed.

I will not rant about my experience because the Japanese procedures were introduced only recently and, may in the future be revised or withdrawn when we learn to live with Covid.

But I had transited through Narita previously (this time it was Chitose), and the long queues seem characteristic.

We also encountered long queues when we departed Chitose. And this time we were spared the Covid screening measures. But still, the seemingly inefficient security check.

In Taipei, we were on the same plane, but we were required to deplane, go through some sort of screening, before being let back on the plane. It seemed redundant and specious.

But I'll just put it down to "they're not Changi/Singapore."
