If you're here for tips, I hope this helps. I'm not an expert on Japan or travelling in Japan, but travelling includes learning about the place, and maybe this can help speed up your learning and help you with your planning.
Japan changes but also manages to stay the same. So some tips may be out of date by the time you read this, so do check for updated info at the official websites and sources.
Hope you have as much fun as we're going to have!

We went on a second trip from 20th Oct to 2 Nov 2013.
This was our intended honeymoon, and I wanted to see Omoshiroyama-kogen.
Seeing Japan in Autumn was different, and we loved it. But I really need to learn how to speak Japanese.

Update
As you can see, this is no longer just about Japan.
Although that is still my fascination and maybe obsession, or my pet project.
There are some bits on Australia, New Zealand, and if I go elsewhere, I will probably include it.
Update 2019
I like New Zealand, but getting there is not easy. There are few direct flights from SG to NZ.
So for now, we're just alternating between Japan and Australia. I like these countries. I have two rule of thumb for holidays.
1) it must be cool or even cold. SG is hot and humid. I do not want to holiday in Malaysia, Indonesia, or Thailand. If I wanted to sweat I would just stay in Singapore.
2) for every hour I spend travelling there, I need to spend a day there. So 7 hour flights to Japan or Australia, translates to a minimum 1 week holiday. Usually we go for 2 weeks. To cover the return flight as well. :-)
Update Sept 2022
As of this writing, we are waiting for Japan to completely open up so we can visit Japan after more than 2 years without travelling. Our last visit was in 2019, then in 2020, the world closed down. No travel anywhere. for more than 2 years. The world has started to open up slowly in 2022. Singapore is one of the places that are open. But being from Singapore, we really want our favourite destination (Japan) to completely open up.
So this blog was dormant.
So it turned inward to "Home tourism". And if we can travel, we'll help those who can travel and want to travel to Singapore.
